Frequently asked
I need an NFC tag, where can I buy one?
Any standard NFC tag works: NTAG213, 215 or 216. Expect around €5 for 10 on Amazon or AliExpress. A single tag is enough to start, but Lock lets you pair up to 5 (office, home, wallet, etc.).
What if I lose my NFC tag?
Several safety nets exist so you're never stuck:
- Emergency unlocks give temporary access to blocked apps (count and duration configurable in settings)
- The session timeout automatically deactivates blocking after a few hours (2h / 3h / 5h / 8h per your configuration)
- Uninstalling Lock always works, like any other Android app
Does Lock work without internet?
Yes, 100%. Lock contacts no server, needs no connection, and requires no account. The app works entirely offline.
Which phones are compatible?
Lock requires Android 14 (SDK 34) or newer, with a working NFC sensor. Most mid- and high-range Android phones released after 2020 are compatible.
Is Lock free?
Yes, 100% free and ad-free. No in-app purchases, no account required, no subscription. A Buy Me a Coffee tip system is available in the app to support development, but it is never required nor prompted.
Is my data collected?
No, none. See the privacy policy for details. Your profiles, paired tags, and statistics stay only on your phone.
Why does Lock need the Accessibility Service?
It's the only way, on Android, to detect when an app is opening. Lock uses this service only for that specific purpose: knowing when a blocked app has just been opened, then returning to the home screen. Lock does not read any content displayed by other apps, captures no screens, and collects no data.
What is manual mode?
An alternative mode that lets you use Lock without an NFC tag: you activate and deactivate blocking directly from the app. Handy for testing Lock before buying a tag, or as a fallback if you misplace yours. The experience is less constraining since there's no physical friction anymore, but the real benefit of Lock comes from the scan gesture: that's what creates intention.
Can I export my data?
Yes. In settings, the Export function generates a JSON file containing your profile, paired tags, and statistics. You can import it on another phone or keep it as a backup.
How do I uninstall Lock?
Like any other Android app: long-press the Lock icon, then Uninstall. No special steps required: Lock does not resist uninstallation, which is a guarantee of user control.
